Tembisa’s snooker champion

Louis Chauke, one of the best snooker players in Tembisa, is challenging other great snooker players in Ekurhuleni as he is tired of winning all his games.

Known by his surname “Chauke” in the Gauteng Snooker cycles, the soft-spoken player was spotted by The Tembisan at Isithama Section on Thursday evening. He played 41 games and lost only one.

In an exclusive interview with The Tembisan, shortly after he was declared as the best player on the day, he said he started playing snooker seriously in 1997.

“I joined Blackball Sinkers in 1997 and played for them for more than 3 years. I was chosen to represent Ekurhuleni and also the GautengpProvincial squad in the same year,” he said.

In 2005 he joined Adion in Kempton Park, where he played for another three years. “In the provincial team I played with well-known snooker players like Fezile, Wetsi Morake, Jutas and Sipho Ray Stereo, amongst others. In 2010 I was in the all-conquering provincial teamand we beat nearly all our opponents,” he said.

He stopped playing snooker for a while when his father asked him to concentrate on other, more important matters at home.

“But now I’m back and ready to roll,” he said. According to Chauke, there is only one other player in Tembisa who can give him a serious challenge – and that is a player known as Sello.
