Happy Boys win on penalties
Happy Boys from Sethokga hostel in Tembisa beat Isithama X1 5-3 on penalties in an entertaining game played at the Mvelaphanda sports grounds on Sunday this week.
Both teams battled in the heat, but still started the game at a fast pace. It wasn’t long, however, before the heat began to get to the players and the game slowed down considerably.
Happy Boys’ Thivhapfi Thoboni was a thorn in the locals’ defence with his pin-point passes, but Ephraim Thagwana and his fellow defenders were rock-solid at the back, defusing all the crosses before the ball could reach the strikers. The scoreline was 0-0 at the break.
Happy Boys drew first blood only 10 minutes into the second half. Ayanda Mapeyi received a cross from the right flank before beating the ‘keeper with a volley just 15 meters from the goalmouth. Instead of increasing the pressure after scoring the goal, Happy Boys started defending their solitary goal. The locals equalised through Fhatuwani, who scored with a beautiful header from the corner kick. The game ended in a 1-1 stalemate and had to be decided on penalties, which Happy Boys won 5-3.
