A Birchleigh teenager is the South African BMX champion for the fourth year running after great performances at the national championships.
Alex Dolman (14) won all four races at the South African Championships on October 25.
He followed up on this excellent performance at the UCI African Continental Championships at Giba Gorge in Kwa-Zulu Natal the next day.
There he also won all four races to become the UCI African champion. This learner of Maranatha Christian School raced in dangerous conditions as it was pouring with rain.
Dolman started competing at the age of nine. He thinks he got his love for BMX’ing from his mother, Tracey, who used to ride bicycles.
When asked what he felt like when he he knew he had won, he said: “I just smiled.”
Dolman wants to compete in the Olympics some day.
His hobbies include building his own dirt ramps to jump with his BMX an also playing rugby.
The champion has raced in countries like New Zeeland, England and the Netherlands, and will surely race all over the world in time.
His worst injury was a fractured elbow a while back. However, he has had many scrapes and bumps but nothing will stop this young racer.
He would like to thank Kempton Park BMX Club, his sponsors and his parents.
