THE South African Breweries (SAB) in Isando handed over the official kit to SAB league teams based in parts of Gauteng on February 19.
These teams will battle it out during the tournament’s provincial play offs this season.
More than 84 players received the official kit which is provided each year in the run-up to the play offs. The teams are from Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, West Rand, Tshwane and Sedibeng.
Sylvester Ndaba of SAB corporate social investment said: ” As part of the continuous development of the league, we thought it critical to provide apparel for the teams, which they not only need, but also gives them a professional look and improves their level of confidence.”
The SAB league is the largest South African Football Association (SAFA) football and development league in SA which aims to identify and nurture young sporting talent at grassroots level, offering the opportunity for them to move through the ranks of SA football.
A total of 18 SAB league teams (two teams per province) out of the 1 305 competing in the league, will be promoted to the SAFA second division league.
This year also marks 15 years of SAB’s involvement in SA’s largest development league.
Ndaba said: “SAB is passionate about serving communities and the youth that are the building blocks of those communities. We are in a unique position of being able to use football players to drive responsible messaging among their peers and in their communities, thereby helping to fight alcohol abuse in the hearts and minds of the most vulnerable.”
