Five players signed for USA team

Two players have also been approached regarding selection for two available spots at Weslyan Christian High School in North Carolina

TRIALS facilitated by Heroes Futbol Association and hosted by Bonaero Park ’74 FC early in February, proved to have been a major success by showing the rich football talent within the East Rand.

Coach Mike Lee from Muskegon Risers was impressed to see the talent South Africa had to offer.

Five players have signed for Muskegon Risers, an independent professional team located in Michigan, USA. They are Alexander Munro (Benoni), Brogan Shrimpton (Benoni), Bandile Mathandala (Kempton Park), Matthew Robinson (Benoni) and Keagan Frawly (Benoni).

There was a good turnout at the trials where ages ranged from 15 to 25. For players 18 and younger, the trials were for high school and university scholarships.

Sean Humphries (Benoni) and Gian-Luca Schunke (Edenvale) were approached regarding selection for two available spots at Weslyan Christian High School in North Carolina, USA. Heroes is still in discussion with other players and parents regarding university scholarships in the near future.

The head director of Heroes Futbol Association, Sidney Frewen, said: “I want to thank all the players and parents for taking on this challenge and for the trials being held in good spirit showing great sportsmanship.

“I also want to thank Bonaero ’74 FC for hosting the trials. Club Chairman Lourens van Dyk assisted us in more than one aspect. Bonaero made sure that everyone present was catered for and felt comfortable at the club.

“I admire Bonaero for the hard work they do in order to maintain the fields in such an immaculate condition.”
