Amakhosi a jabulile

Every Kaizer Chiefs supporter in Tembisa can be excused for having an extra spring in their step following their team’s 4 – 1 victory over Polokwane City on Wednesday, April 22.

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have secured their second ABSA Premiership title in three years whe they beat Polokwane City 4-1 at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday, April 22.

George Lebese, Bernard Parker and Matthew Rusike’s brace cared for the goals.

According to the Kaizer Chiefs website, it is thanks to the win that Amakhosi have now 63 points from 27 games and are league champions.

In the other result, potential league contenders Mamelodi Sundowns, were held to a 1 – 1 draw in their clash against Platinum Stars.

The win has helped Chiefs secure their twelfth league title since the Club’s foundation in 1970. The first league title was won in 1974. This is also Stuart Baxter’s second Absa Premiership trophy since taking over as the coach in 2012.

The Kaiser Chiefs website reported, “Baxter made one change for the Polokwane City game, compared to the previous league outing against Tuks.

“Rusike came in for Katlego Mphela, while Reyaad Pieterse was again in goal in the absence of the suspended Itumeleng Khune.”

Amakhosi started well, with Lebese getting an excellent chance to open the score in the fifth minute. Rusike made a fine run on the right flank, crossed the ball into the box, only for Lebese to head the ball over the crossbar from close range.

Amakhosi’s next league clash is away against Mamelodi Sundowns at Atteridgeville’s Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday, April 29(kick-off at 7:30 pm).
