Tembisa athletes off to SA Half Marathon champs
Four Tembisa-based athletes have been selected to represent Central Gauteng Athletics at the South African half Marathon championships on July 25 in Port Elizabeth.
Top performing athletes on the day will maximize their chances of being selected to represent the country at the IAAF World Half Marathon champs to be held in Cardiff, Great Britain.
Tembisa will be represented by:
Lucky Mohale, of Boxer Athletics Club. Lucky is the former SA 10km and half marathon champion and would like to reclaim the title he won in 2010.
Philimon Mathiba, of Nedbank Running Club. Mathiba is the 2015 Central Gauteng Athletics half marathon champ.
Desmond Mokgobu, of Boxer Athletics Club. Mokgobu is the 2014 South African Marathon champion.
Africa Mailola, of Nedbank Running Club is the 2014 South African Marathon silver medalist.
The athletes’ selection was based on their outstanding performance over the half marathon distance in Gauteng.
Lucky won the popular Dis-Chem Half Marathon in Bedfordview in January, while his training partner Desmond Mokgobu won the Johnson Crane Half Marathon in Benoni.
Mailola won the Pick n Pay Half Marathon in Edenvale and his team-mate and training partner Mathiba won the Slow Mag Half marathon in Benoni
