Kempton’s premier XI side marches on

Kempton face their toughest test yet this Sunday

KEMPTON Park Cricket Club’s premier team continued their perfect start to the season making it five from five with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Actonville away on Sunday.

Actonville batted first and could only muster 93 all out in 29 overs on the typical low and slow wicket. Gareth Harte was the pick of the bowlers returning the skipper’s faith with new ball as he roped in his best figures for the club with 5/17.

He was backed up well by fellow fast bowlers David Jacobs (3/27) and Gavin Ralph (2/22).

Kempton went out all guns blazing and secured the bonus point victory by reaching the target of 94 in 14 overs with three wickets down. Casey Arnold (34) and Carel Botha (26) ensured that the victory was secured before lunch.

Kempton have now made it five from five bonus point victories. Kempton face their toughest test yet this Sunday when they welcome defending league champions, Benoni Northerns, to Barnard Stadium.

The promotion league side travelled to Benoni to face their fierce rivals at Northerns in a highly anticipated game which whimpered out to a fairly disappointing end with the game being marred by some very questionable umpiring decisions.

Kempton won the toss and elected to bat first on a very flat looking deck. This proved to be a very good choice as the wicket played anything but the way all players thought. Kempton were skittled out for a very poultry 104 in 31 overs with only Wynand Hefer (27) and skipper Lee Coetzee (17) showing any resistance to the Benoni bowling line up.

Kempton knew they would have to come out and hit good areas from ball one to make any contest of the game. Kempton opened the bowling with off spinner Dean Visser and this move payed off handsomely as the young offie returned figures of 6/19 in 9.1 overs as Kempton dismissed Benoni for 64 in 19.1 overs.

The director’s A side defeated Springs Old Boys by one wicket. SOB scored 245/9 in 46 overs with Steven Rossouw (4/32) and Milen Goev (2/42) the top bowlers.

Kempton made 246/9 with Don Mackay (64) and Chris Grant (53) the best batsmen.

The director’s B side defeated CBC by 117 runs. Kempton scored 299/9 (Thomas Ndimande 105). CBC were all out for 182. Shoaib Musa took 3/45.

It was also a good weekend for Kempton’s senior sides as all five Sunday teams recorded victories.
