800 runners enter street mile race
The Lesotho-born Namakoe Nkhasi emerged victorious in the men’s 10km event.
About 800 runners took to the streets of Tembisa for the fourth edition of the TomTom Tembisa Street Mile on Sunday.
Madumetja Donald Mathipa, the road race commentator, said Lesotho-born Namakoe Nkhasi emerged victorious in the men’s 10km event.
He also set a new course record of 29:26.
In the women’s race, Zimbabwean athlete Rutendo Nyahora won in 34:51.
“The street mile saw the inaugural winner, Dumisane Hlaselo running for University of Johannesburg, wining the Elite Mile men’s race in 4:20, while Simonay Weitsz of KPMG won the women’s race in a time of 5:10,” said Mr Donald Mathipa.
In the Elite Mile men’s category, Folavio Sehohle (Nedbank) finished second with a time of 4:22. Parsons Magagane (UJ) finished third in a time of 4:25, Thabang Mosiako finished fourth in a time of 4:27 and Tumelo Motlagale (UJ) finished fifth in a time of 4:29.
In the Elite Women’s category, Anuscha Nice (Tuks) was second in a time of 5:09 and Caster Semenya (Pukke) was third in a time of 5:18. Fourth place went to Gena Lofstrand (Pukke) in a time of 5:20 and Murendwa Dhavana (UT) was fifth in a time of 5:21.
In the 10km men’s race, Nedbank runner Joel Mmone was second with a time of 30:30 and Sibusiso Nzima finished third with a time of 30:50.
In the 10km women’s race, Nolene Conrad from KPMG finished second in a time of 35:52.
