Kempton’s premier XI stumble in top of the table clash

They will be sure to bounce back strongly this coming Sunday

KEMPTON Park Cricket Club’s premier team suffered their first defeat of the season with a five-wicket loss at the hands of relative new comers to the premier league.

The young, plucky outfit of United Cricket Club pulled off arguably their greatest victory since entering the Easterns premier league three seasons ago.

Kempton won the toss and elected to bat first and soon found themselves in a heap of trouble, losing wickets at regular intervals. This ensured that the innings never gained any momentum and Kempton were bowled out for a poultry 141 in 31.3 overs.

The only batsmen to show any sort of resistance to the United bowling attack were Jurie Snyman (25) and big hitting lower order batsmen, Clayton Ceronio (34).

The Kempton bowlers had United in a spot of bother early on, restricting them to 30/3 at one stage. However, the young United outfit showed a lot of guts and composure to reach the target of 142/5 in the 34th over to take the bonus point.

It was a very disappointing result for the powerful Kempton outfit but they will be sure to bounce back strongly this coming Sunday when they travel to Pollack Park to face Springs Old Boys.

The promotion side travelled to Actonville and recorded a massive 272-run victory. Kempton batted first and took all the opposition bowlers apart in a very one-sided encounter.

Kempton went on to post 341/6 in their 50 overs. The league’s leading scorer, Divan de Beer, continued his scintillating form by smashing another century.

His solid knock of 108 came off only 70 balls. He was very well supported by Wayne Visser (59*) and Louis Geldenhuis (55).

The Kempton bowlers then went out all guns blazing and dismissed Actonville for 64 in 22 overs. The damage was done by openers Shoiab Musa (3/12) and Gavin Ralph (2/41). Once again off spinner Dean Visser continued his good form by picking up 3/4 in 4 overs.

The director’s team defeated Benoni Northerns by four wickets. Benoni were 242 all out. Kempton made 244/6 in 38 overs.

Quinton Olivier scored 100* and Damien Watkins 62.
