Father and son win national medals
Young Etienne is now the new all styles KSA national champion for boys kumite

LIKE father, like son.
A father and son from Kempton Park brought home medals after competing at the national karate championships earlier this month.
However, Etienne Huyzers outdid his dad Joos by winning gold, while his father raked in a silver.
Etienne took part in the Karate South Africa Nationals Championships in KwaZulu-Natal on March 3 where he came first in his division.
He is now the new all styles KSA national champion for boys kumite (free fighting) 10-11 years under 30kg.
“At the moment we are waiting to find out if he will be selected for the national team to represent Karate South Africa at the Zone 6 tournament in Mozambique and also the Commonwealth Games later in the year,” proud dad Joos said.
“All of us from Kempton Park Karate Academy are very proud of his achievements.”
Sensei Joos took part in the KSA national tournament on March 17 in Bellville in the Cape. He came second in the kata division for veterans aged 35-49 years.
