Each year Tembisa residents flock local to stadiums to get a treat of the Mosehla Easter Games (MEG) but few know who the man behind the tournament is.
The Tembisan caught up with one of the men behind the prestigious games that pulls fans from as far as Soweto and Katlehong.
Tebogo Mosehla said he is nothing more than an ordinary guy from next door.
“I was born in Alexandra township but I was raised here in Tembisa and I went to school here.
“It was hard growing up in the township and like any other child, I played soccer on the dusty pitch.
“I played for Gloria FC but it was nothing more than a sport to keep active. I did not have dreams of playing professional football,” said Mr Mosehla.
He said he had his eyes set on becoming an academic and he managed to finish his tertiary education.
His love and concern for Tembisa saw him starting a soccer tournament that drew the attention of big sponsors.
“We started planning the tournament since 2010 but it only materialised in 2013.
“The plan was to bring people of all cultures together in one space for both entertainment and business.
MEG is a platform to nurture small businesses by offering stalls for trading that day,” said Mr Mosehla.
He said in that way they are giving back to the community.
Mr Mosehla is adamant that MEG is the better paying football tournament during Easter holidays.
“I am humbled by the support we get and I am happy with the momentum of the tournament’s growth. When we started we had a long term plan and we knew that MEG was going to be a big tournament,” said Mr Mosehla.
He said the tournament is in its fifth season and the prizes are bigger and better.
“We started paying prizes from our own pockets and in our fourth season sponsors started joining us.
We are yet again going to bring our fans the most exciting Kasi football,” he said.
He said spectators stand to win prizes and entrance to all the games is free.
The Mosehla Easter Games (MEG) will kick off on Friday April 14 until April 17.
