Amandla FC emerged victorious in the four day Mosehla Easter Games 2017 tournament.
The team’s coach, Mr Victor Tshabalala, said the tournament was well organised.
“All teams had good players and good coaches. At the end of the day football was the winner,” said Amandla FC’s coach, Mr Victor Tshabalala.
The first game saw Amandla FC taking on Masokolara.
“They were not strong and they didn’t have quality players. That was our first game and we beat them 2-0,” said Tshabalala.
In their second match, Amandla FC played against Abarondoli FC.
“That was a tough but balanced game because both teams had quality players. We managed to beat Abarondoli FC 3-0.”
The third game, which was the semi-final for Amandla FC, saw the team taking on KFC.
“KFC is a team from Soweto and they were a strong team. They played calculated football.
“They were playing with young players on the field but those boys knew what they were doing and they were strong,” said Tshabalala.
Amandla FC beat KFC 2-0.
Amandla FC faced G-string FC in the tournament finals.
“At the beginning our approach was to go to the opponent full-force with aggression.
“We tried to get an early goal and we managed to get one when Terves scored the first goal,” said Tshabalala.
“Five minutes after our first goal, we conceded a goal when our opponent was awarded a free kick. They managed to score an equaliser.”
He said in the second half, Amandla FC kept pushing and attacked their opponents.
“We drove the ball to our right winger Nicholas who gave a quality cross to Touch, our number 10 player. Touch controlled the ball well as he picked a spot – unfortunately he hit the cross bar, missing a chance to score a second goal.”
The G-string FC boys took advantage to attack as the ball bounced back onto the pitch but they failed to secure a goal.
From there the tempo of the game increased, but neither teams were able to score.
Tshabalala said G-string FC managed to close Amandla FC down, ensuring that Amandla FC doesn’t get the needed spaces to attain victory.
At the of the 90 minutes the score stood at 1-1 and the match proceeded to the penalty shoot out.
Amandla FC became the champions when they won the penalty shootout 7-6.
Tshabalala said it was the first time he had participated in the tournament as a coach.
“I cannot express any happy emotion because for me the sport is about a long term vision, it is about time invested in growing young stars and in proving that we can create the best players in Tembisa.”
