Tumi aims high in soccer game

Mr Tumi Mosehla supports small business through soccer.

In the previous issue of our newspaper we introduced one partner in the Mosehla Easter Games (MEG), Tebogo Mosehla.

In this issue we talk to his brother and business partner, Tumi Mosehla.

Like his brother, Tumi is a reserved person and a simple guy with a love for football.

Tumi was born and raised in Tembisa, but stayed in Alexandra for two years before returning to study in Tembisa.

“Growing up my interest was in athletics and I enjoyed running. Between 2010 and 2011 my brother Tebogo approached me with an idea for an Easter football tournament,” said Tumi.

“It was a viable idea and we agreed to use our surname to brand the tournament.

“I saw potential in the proposal and I said, ‘Let’s do it; let us run with the idea,’ and here we are today.”

He said in the beginning there were logistical challenges for him as he knew little about the sport.

“I didn’t know many teams and my big challenge was to learn soccer in depth.

“I love challenges because from them I learn new things. I admit when I don’t know something I make an extra effort to learn.”

He said for one to organise a soccer tournament of MEG’s magnitude one needs to have a serious interest in the sport.

“Do research and learn the logistics. It doesn’t end here. My dream is to own a professional football team that will play in the PSL,” said Tumi.

“Doing what you love can become a business one day.

“At MEG we nurture growth of small businesses and those businesses so far are happy with the opportunity we offer them annually to participate in our tournaments.”

Tumi said MEG has had a positive response from both the fans and the community at large.

Fans, he said, have acknowledged that MEG has become part of the community’s sporting culture.

“We are the highly preferred soccer tournament during Easter time.

“Fans congratulate us for bringing them true kasi football. This is made possible by the committed MEG team,” he said, adding that there is a lot of hard work that goes towards staging an event like the Mosehla Easter Games.

“We have sleepless nights. I want to say thank you to the MEG team for their determination.”

He also thanked everyone who supported this year’s spectacular Easter games.
