Sbusiso Mhlanga revives soccer in Tembisa to save young boys from substance abuse.
Phomolong X20 soccer development grooms young boys from six years old to u-15.
Mhlanga said he had collected about 148 boys he now trains on a regular basis to nurture their soccer talent.
“I do not have a sponsor but I am committed to making this work and keeping the boys off the streets. I have seen a lot of these young boys get into drugs and alcohol abuse. I started the development in January 2017.”

He said when the scourge of drugs got him worried he needed to do something about it. He spoke to the community about his plans and as a result many parents are sending their children to join his academy.
“We want the community to support the initiative and we are also hoping to get a sponsor. I was a player myself but I did not get to professional level. Township soccer is not taken seriously and that is why good talent fades away and ends on the dusty streets.
“I want to change the situation and make sure these children get a chance to play in the PSL. The community must play a crucial part in uplifting the sport and fighting substance abuse.”
He urged parents to be there for these children by coming to watch their games.
“I encourage talent scouts to come and see the talent at our games and maybe some of these boys will impress them. They will get to start their career at an early stage. Our main objective is to keep these children away from drugs.”
