Bird-lovers flock together at canary show

The standard of birds on show was high, with exhibitors well rewarded for their efforts

MORE than 800 birds, consisting of different varieties of canaries supported further by a number of Gouldian finches, Bengalese finches and Zebra finches, were on exhibition at Boksburg Canary Club’s 2017 show at the NG Church on Highveld Road in June.

The birds were adjudicated by 12 SA National Cage Bird Association (SANCBA) judges, and exhibitors travelled from across the country to enter.

The standard of birds on show was high, with exhibitors well rewarded for their efforts. Pierre Fourie from Vanderbijlpark won all three Frill canary sections (Parisian, North Dutch and Fiorino).

Bertie Vermeulen from Virginia won the category for the best Zebra finch and the best Bengalese finch on show, while an excited young Chante Geldenhuys (6) from Alberton won the category for the best Yorkshire canary on show.

Piet Gouws (Kibler Park) – Best Red Factor Canary

Chris van der Linde (Benoni) – Best Roller Canary

Chante Geldenhuys (Alberton) – Best Yorkshire Canary

André Goosen (Pretoria) – Best Stafford Canary

Bertie Vermeulen (Virginia) – Best Zebra Finch
