Pomona bodybuilder gets 6th place at WFF world championships
Rusty Sayed is proud to have flown the SA flag high in Brazil in a global bodybuilding competition
POMONA bodybuilder Rusty Sayed flew to Brazil on June 21 to represent South Africa at the WFF World Champion Brazi-Rio Bodybuilding Championship.
Rusty is proud to have competed against the best of the best and scored 6th place in the men’s performance. He is especially proud because he always competes as an individual who does it only for the love of it but then outperforms professional bodybuilders and gym instructors.

Rusty earned his spot after placing second in Pretoria during the Pretoria Classic men’s performance on May 13 when he gave his best to represent his home country.

Today he is back in South African after mingling with with athletes from all continents and taking scores of photos with aspiring bodybuilders and bodybuilding fans in Brazil.
Speaking to EXPRESS, he said, “I am not going to lie. This takes a lot of discipline. For me, 70 per cent of bodybuilding is what I eat and 30 per cent is what I do at the gym. Truth be told, I would not be here or even survive, if it weren’t for my wife. She helps me cook my meals which involves much work since everything I eat is weighed.
“I loved the experience and the people very much. I went there with a team comprising 14 South Africans and they were amazing. We were very ‘tight’ the entire time. I will definitely visit Rio with my wife and children some day. It was my first time overseas and I loved it,” he explained.
Rusty is already preparing to compete at the provincial NABBA competition scheduled for September 2, where he plans to compete in the men’s performance line-up as well as the men’s over 40 line-up.

“I am not going to lie. I can feel my body needs a break right now. I plan to take eight months’ break to build some volume on my shoulders and thighs. I think after the next competition I will take that much needed break,” he said.
Rusty spent his own money to compete and represent his country. He asked for sponsorship but was unable to find any before leaving. He only started bodybuilding in 2014 and won his first competition, which encouraged him to take this further. It makes him proud to be competing with professionals and to get a prize.
The family man and father of three welcomes any organisations, company or individuals wishing to sponsor him, to call or WhatsApp him on 082 256 2839.
