Winning golf partnership shines
These two super gentlemen of golf played above expectation as their 47 points amount to a total 11 under par
Mesh Maluka and Broadia Matlogela scored 47 points to win the Tembisa Golf Club American Scramble competition at Kempton Park Country Club on August 27.
These two super gentlemen of golf played above expectation, as their 47 points amount to a total 11 under par aggregate score, which is brilliant for the challenging Kempton Park course.
Breathing heavily down their necks was the second-placed pair George Mokela and Andrew Mothiba, who also posted a 10 under total of 46 points.
A group of five pairs, which included young Phumlani Maluka and partner Tebogo Motloung, Ace Mthembu and partner David Mbene, Joko Makhoba and partner Thabang Simon, Sipho Sidu and partner Benjamin Monyanyedi, Ratha Botha and partner Buik Mothopi, were all tied for third place after scoring 45 points each pair.
It was all excitement as Maluka and Matlogela not only scooped prizes but also took home two trophies which they have to defend next year.
Defending champions Mporo Mathiyase and Tana Mowela scored 44 points but failed to win a prize, although they produced a sterling eagle on the 16th hole after Mowela hit his tee shot on to the par four, 16th green where he almost got a hole in one.
Mowela and Mathiyase were closely guarded by the partnership of Lekhothoane and Mazibuko, who did not make it easy for them.
Young Phumlani Maluka, who also did not disappoint with his partner Tebogo, is set to go to Dubai and there is a benefit game meant for him on August 31 at Kempton Park Country Club organised by Show Me Your Number, a fund-raising group.
Interestingly, Mesh, the winner of the scramble, is Phumi’s father, so the great game of golf certainly runs in the family.
