Generations FC conquers in tournament

Generations FC took first prize in a tournament.

Generations FC emerged victorious in the George Maluleka tournament over the weekend.

The tournament was played over two weekends, from September 23 until October 8.

Mike Boshomane, the founder and organiser of the George Maluleka tournament, said this year’s games were the fourth edition of the tournament since its inception in 2014.

“The tournament is growing gradually in terms of discipline and all the teams observed the set rules and regulations stipulated in the tournament.

“We invited talent scouts who were present throughout the Maluleka games.

“We have some players who were spotted by the talent scouts.

Mike Boshomane, Lehlgonolo Sekwati and James Maepa.

“We gave strict instructions to the 36 teams that participated. One of the rules was that no team should field well-exposed players from professional sides and, unfortunately, we had to disqualify one team that disobeyed that rule.

“We disqualified them to instil discipline and send a message to other teams to distance themselves from flouting the George Maluleka tournament’s rules,” said Boshomane.

Second runners-up Rock Nation receive their medals

He thanked parents for letting their children participate in the tournament and commended all the teams’ coaches for their hard work.

“I also want to thank the community for their support.

“We want to thank all sponsors for making this tournament a success.

“I want to thank the George Maluleka tournament’s organising team for their hard work.”

Mike Boshomane, Elliot Nematenda and Tebogo Kekana.

Generations FC’s coach Orbed Sithagu said they were very happy as a team to attain such success.

“We played three games and won all of them.

“In our first game we played against Ebony Tigers and won 4-0.

“Our second game was played against Tembisa Sports Centre and we won 5-3 on penalties.

“Rock Nation was our final opponent and that was the final game of the tournament.

“We had no challenges throughout the tournament.

“Our second game was a bit tough, but we managed.

“Our final game was easy and we managed to score all three goals in the first half of the match.

“The first goal was scored by Elliot Nematenda, the second goal was scored by Kgabo Mashamite and the third goal was scored by Mpumelelo Mdluli.

“We had no substitutions in the first half because it was not necessary.

“In the second half, we had to give other players a chance, as we were already leading the game. I took out Thato and replaced him with Killer. Kgabo made way for Masilela.”

The final score in the match between Generations FC and Rock Nation was 3-0 in favour of Generations FC.

Boshomane is inviting more teams to take part in next year’s edition of the George Maluleka tournament.
