Shihan Eddie Theron heads for world champs

Shihan Eddie Theron from the Extreme Kickboxing Club Kempton Park is set to compete at the World Amateur Kickboxing Organisation (WAKO) 2017 Championships.

KEMPTON Park and South Africa will be well represented at the World Amateur Kickboxing Organisation (WAKO) 2017 Championships.

Shihan Eddie Theron, instructor at the Extreme Kickboxing Club Kempton Park, was selected for the South African team that is set to compete at the championships to be held in Budapest, Hungary from November 6-12.

Theron’s selection is a result of his excellent performance at the South African Kickboxing Association (SAKA) Championships.

“I placed first in the light contact division at the SAKA Championships earlier in the year and I have been training and preparing myself for this competition ever since the announcement,” said Theron.

“I have attended competitions organised by WAKO and it is always tough. I took second place at one of the organisation’s competitions in 2016.

“This is one competition that everybody wants to win. Very few to none South Africans have received gold medals at this competition.”

Theron said winning this competition would be a big addition to his accolades and add more value to his 28 years in the sport.

“Winning this competition will be the height of my kickboxing career,” said Theron.

“As for the South African team, we have been training very hard and I pray for God’s grace upon all of us.

“Thank you to SMI Pumps and Dream Team for making this trip possible for me as we have to pay for ourselves and it is very costly.

“This sport is part of who I am and I intend on giving this competition my all.”

Theron will compete in the light contact and kick-light divisions.
