Mauritian ringball players learn from locals
South African teams will also visit Mauritius next year to help their seniors and masters teams
DESPITE the icy cold weather on Friday night, October 27, camaraderie and fun were the order of the day at the Kempton Park ringball courts.
The masters women’s team from the Mauritius Ringball Federation played against the Ekurhuleni North Masters team.
“The Mauritius team is on a development tour in South Africa,” said Wynand Zaayman, the event organiser.
“The Mauritius team is made up of women from different centres in Mauritius and the sport was only introduced to them in 2016, so through the tour they learn more about the sport and become more competitive. Since the sport was introduced to them, they have developed in the sport and are at competitive level.”

Zaayman said the visiting team also played against other teams during their tour, including the West Rand and Pretoria.
“All these games are good and give them great competition experience, which will help develop their skills even more.”
Zaayman also told EXPRESS that playing ringball was not all the visitors did. “They went shopping and visited Johannesburg Zoo,” he said.
“South African teams will also visit Mauritius next year to help their seniors and masters teams. We will spend money developing in Mauritius, India and Namibia.
“Development is important and different, and you need people with passion for the sport. Where there is a will there is a way.”
