ESP swimmers selected for games
Kyle scored 88 points for Ekurhuleni and won a gold medal.
FOUR ESP swimmers were selected to compete for Ekurhuleni in the OR Tambo Soncini Inaugural Games at Germiston Stadium.
The games were inaugurated to celebrate Tambo’s 100th birthday, had he still been alive.
The Ekurhuleni team was well sponsored and together with their new kit bags they proudly wore their new memorial tracksuits, golf and T-shirts, caps and swimming caps.
Cold weather, in conjunction with outdoor pools, is not conducive to encouraging fast swimming, however, all the provincial athletes showed their grit and determination, posting some excellent times in the Delville pool.
Kyle McKenzie swam six events and achieved two personal best times. He completed the 200m individual medley in 2:13:58 and has qualified for the SA Junior Nationals and the SA Youth Nationals at the end of the 2017/8 season.
Kyle scored 88 points for Ekurhuleni and won a gold medal.
Bernelee Doster scored 43 points, Clayton Malaza added 21 points and his brother Oyama another 13 points.
ESP chairman Andrew McKenzie was the manager and Liz Humphrey the coach for the Ekurhuleni team at this event.
Four Eastern Gauteng Aquatics swimmers have also been selected for the initial Tri-Colour Games squad through their participation at the OR Tambo Soncini Games.
This small team, selected from the whole Gauteng province – Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Sedibeng, Tshwane, West Rand and Gauteng schools, will be monitored over the next few months to ensure dedication and willingness to train and a final selection will be announced early in 2018.
The four are Jandre Moll (Victor Aquantum), Kyle McKenzie (ESP), Clayton Malaza (ESP) and Enrico Giuricich (Dynamo).
