Three local schools represented at SA Interprovincial Tennis Tournament.

Hoërskool Birchleigh player makes the SA team

Tennis players from three Kempton Park schools were members of the Gauteng East teams that took part in the South African Schools Interprovincial Tournament at the end of April.

The schools represented were Hoërskool Birchleigh (Isabella Sereo), Hoërskool Kempton Park (Dominique Jansen van Vuuren) and Laerskool Kruinsig (Eugene Labuschagne).

The u-19 and u-15 teams played in Pretoria. The u-19 team ended fifth out of 16 teams. Liam Day and Isabella Sereo were chosen for the u-19 South African high schools team to tour the UK in July.

The u-15 team ended 12th out of 16 teams.

The u-13 team played in Bloemfontein and ended 15th out of 16 teams. Tayla Wilmot and Erin McKenzie were selected for the u-13 primary schools team to tour the USA in August.

Ken Smith, chairman of Gauteng East Tennis Association, said: “Gauteng East had the most enjoyable interpro tournament. The teams showed total commitment and all the players have gained invaluable experience and have grown as tennis players.”
