Local soccer teams shine at prize-giving

Several junior teams from three local football clubs walked off with titles in this year’s stiff Easterns Local Football Association (ELFA) league.

Kempton Park Football Club
The u-6 division 2 side won their league by a superior goal difference of three goals over BCC.
The u-9 division 5 team placed third in a very competitive league, while the u-10 division 1 representatives were runners-up by a mere two points behind Birch Acres.
The u-12 premier league team won their league without losing a single game the entire season. They also defeated Edenvale in the u-12 cup final to clinch the double.
The u-15 division 1 team came third in their league with a team consisting mainly of u-13 and u-14 players.
The u-15 division 3 side also placed third in their league with a team that had no u-15s; only u-13 and u-14. Things bode well for both sides next season.
The u-17 division 2 team were runners-up in their league, losing out to a strong Sacred Heart team.
The u-19 squad was runners-up to Benoni Northerns in an extremely tough super league. They were also runners-up in the cup final, losing out 5-4 on penalties to the league winners after a 1-1 draw.
Bonaero Park Football Club
The u-6 division 3 and u-7 premier league teams both won the title.
In the u-12 division 3 league, they were third.
The u-17 division 1 team was runners-up by a solitary point to Olifantsfontein-based Peace Gunners.
Birch Acres Football Club
The u-10 division 1 team secured the league win an incredible unbeaten run at the end of the season, edging Kempton Park into second place.
