Tembisa youngsters take part in soccer tourney in Birch Acres

Sports Plus Academy hosted a tournament at the Birch Acres Primary soccer fields. U-10, U-12 and U-15 teams participated.

Sports Plus Academy (SPA) hosted a successful soccer tournament at Birch Acres Primary School on November 24. The winners of the tournament were the u-10s from Birch Acres Primary, u-12s from Sports Plus Academy and the u-15s from Basta Football Club.

SPA saw the need to host the tournament because it realised there were children who needed recognition in Kempton Park and Tembisa.

“The tournament is to keep the kids away from the streets, drugs and crime. We just want to keep them active and make sure the kids are safe,” said Calvin Segoale, director of SPA.

The academy launched in July and hosted a series of tournaments throughout the year. Segoale says he has been playing soccer for a while and developed a few connections with Dynamos Football Club, Black Leopards Football Club and Polokwane City Football Club. Now he wants to link the children to these major football clubs for their development.

Eighteen teams participated in the tournament. Some of the teams were from Birch Acres Primary, Edenvale Primary and Little Stars Football Club from Tembisa. There were also scouts from Kaiser Chiefs, Tuks and Highlands Park.

The tournament ended with teams celebrating their wins with music and dancing.

Birch Acres Primary won first place for the u-10s.

Basta Football Club won first place for the u-15s.

Sports Plus Academy won first place for u-12s.
