Ithembalethu players are rising stars

The boys scored a total of 100 goals in the season

Twenty-four children from Ithembalethu Sports Development Centre recently celebrated being champions of the league for the 2018 season.

Boitumelo Mahlanyane, founder and director at Ithembalethu, said the boys won the Bonaero Tournament earlier this year and the u-9 boys won the league for the 2018 season.

“They were crowned as winners at the Easterns Local Football Association’s annual League Winners Presentation at Olympia Football Club in Bedfordview.

“This is a remarkable and commendable achievement for the boys, as this was the first year that they were participating in the league.

“The boys scored a total of 100 goals in the season,” said Mahlanyane.

She said to mark their exceptional performance, Ithembalethu Sports Development Centre hosted its first annual prize giving ceremony on the November 24.

Ithembalethu players proved their skills in 2018 league.

-The following boys received awards:

-Player of the season: Nhlangano Seleka

-Top goal scorer: Sihle Nhlabathi

-Playmaker of the season: Sambulo Mahlanyane

-Most consistent player: Nkululeko ‘Mandaza’ Ngube

-Best defender: Thato Gelebe

-Most versatile: Lonwabo Mehlomakhulu

-Most energetic: Mosa Mochaki

-Most improved: Kganya ‘Dala’ Tshabalala

-Most dedicated: Nkanyiso Notshikila

-Most spirited: Khaya Notshikila

-Super goalkeeper: Junior Wate

“Ithembalethu aims to unearth sporting talent in our community.

“We will be registering three teams in the 2019 season – u-9, u-10 and u-13.We would like to partner with the community in ensuring that our children, our hope for the future, get opportunities and are recognised,” said Mahlanyane.
