Kempton march underway, Isando Road and Thembisa monitored

“We are here peacefully; we are marching as South Africans, raising our voices. We are asking the government to hear us and have compassion."

Kempton Park residents gathered on Pascoe Avenue on Tuesday morning and began marching toward Highveld Avenue as part of the ongoing national protest action, with the demonstration being closely monitored by SAPS, EMPD, private security companies, the Kempton Park CPF and other stakeholders.

At the time of publication, the march was proceeding peacefully, with a visible law enforcement presence along the route to help maintain public order and ensure the safety of both participants and the broader community.

One of the residents participating in the march, Ishmael Tsotetsi, said the demonstration was intended to be peaceful and focused on calling for government intervention.

“We are here peacefully; we are marching as South Africans, raising our voices. We are asking the government to hear us and have compassion and consideration regarding the things that are happening in this country. We aren’t fighting; we don’t have a problem with foreigners as long as they are here legally; then it’s alright, but if they are here illegally, they have to leave,” said Tsotetsi.

Protest activity was also reported on Isando Road heading towards Barbara and Kraft roads, where authorities continued to monitor the situation.

In Thembisa, sporadic protests were reported in various parts of the township. Earlier in the day, several businesses and shopping centres closed as a precaution, while law enforcement maintained a heightened presence in identified hotspot areas.

Authorities have continued to urge residents to remain calm, avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place, and report any criminal activity through official channels. Community members are also reminded to share only verified information and avoid circulating rumours or unconfirmed reports on social media and messaging platforms.

This remains a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
