Kempton wrestlers bring home gold from Benoni championship

According to a member of the club, the competition saw over 500 entries.

Kempton Park Raptors wrestlers did the city proud at John Barrable Sport Complex in Benoni on February 16, where members won gold at the Eastern Gauteng Open Championship.

Janick Kruger was able to pin her opponent in the first round, making sure to take gold in style. South African champion wrestler Rico van der Westhuizen followed suit, also swooping up the gold in his category.

According to Christell van Rooyen from Raptors, the championship saw over 500 entries.

“The action started early, getting all the participants through medical checks and weigh-in. The wrestling quality was amazing, with many matches going down to the wire,” she told Express.

Anyone interested in joining the club, located on Oak Avenue, Primrose, can call coach Dewald on 083 611 7169 or send an email to raptorswrestlingsa.@gmail.com. The club also has a Facebook page, Raptors Wrestling.

Janick Kruger’s wrestling moves ensured she took home gold.
