Jiyana Secondary set for Kay Motsepe Schools Cup finals
Tembisa schools face off in Kay Motsepe Schools Cup this weekend.
The Kay Motsepe Schools Cup strives to provide opportunities for disadvantaged youth.
This prestigious tournament has been running for years, producing the likes of Andile Jali and Percy Tau and giving teams a chance to grow from grassroots level to top flight football in South Africa.
This year is no different as the Kay Motsepe Schools Cup continues to search for talent in townships as two Tembisa-based schools locked horns. Jiyana Secondary School enjoyed a 2-0 victory after defeating Ingqayizivele High School in the semi-finals at Square Two Grounds on July 26.
During the half-time break, Jiyana Secondary led 1-0. Ten minutes into the second half they doubled their lead to 2-0. Ingqayizivele High struggled to stop Jiyana Secondary as they continuously attacked.

Ingqayizivele High captain Thapelo Papo said they were dominated because the opposition was more offensive and showed hunger to win.
“In the first 10 minutes of the game, we held the ball to read the game, but they played on counter attacks, which worked for them because they got the opening in the first half,” said Papo.
“In the second half, we were more open in the middle, forcing us to chase the match. Before we knew, it was 2-0 and we chased ghosts the rest of the game. The boys started to lose discipline, which resulted negatively on our game plan,” added Papo.
Jiyana Secondary captain Moeketsi Sepholla also said it was a fair game and the referees judged fairly.

“Our opponents lacked disciplined, which resulted in them committing more fouls. In the second half, we managed to get a second goal, sealed our back and pressured them while seeking another goal,” explains Sepholla.
“It was a match of fitness. We beat them because they lacked fitness and character of discipline from the first half,” said Mpumelelo Nkosi, Jiyana Secondary coach.
“In the second half, I told my boys to relax and use the space in between to try and get more goals, which worked,” said Nkosi.
“For the finals, our team will be well prepared, with training that will take place during the week,” added Nkosi.
The finals will take place on August 3, the venue and time are still to be announced.
