Commonwealth Games gold medalist inspires future stars

Long jump star jumps to dental health.

Commonwealth Games triple jump gold medalist Khotso Godfrey Mokoena made a special appearance at the Cross Country League at Tembisa’s Multipurpose Community Centre on July 27, where he inspired many up-and-coming athletes.

“It always humbles and fills my heart with joy and excitement to see so many young people either participating in the games or supporting and cheering on athletes who are competing,” said Mokoena.

“I want to appeal to these future stars to never give up, even if the going gets tough. They must work and train extra hard so they can become mentally and physically strong to tackle all challenges and win these kinds of championships,” he encouraged the young athletes.

The games were hosted under Central Gauteng Athletics’ (CGA) banner.

“Today, I am here with Colgate SA and we are here to promote a healthy lifestyle. Colgate believes health starts in the mouth, and if you are an athlete and suffering from a toothache, your whole body becomes dysfunctional and can’t really do anything because of that one aching tooth. And so, Colgate is here to make sure we give free dental check-ups to all the athletes and the people of Tembisa who are here to support these games.

“We are doing this because we believe if you get your dental health correct then your whole body and thoughts will also be correct and in perfect condition to compete,” explained Mokoena.

On the field, different teams gave their all to finish the league in style for the CGA Championships on August 17.
