Tiny twins remain undefeated in the boxing ring

The club trains at Kempton Park Indoor Sports Centre on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 8pm

Young boxers from Kempton Park Boxing Club made their mark in two recent tournaments.

At a tournament on August 3 at Roshnee Boxing Club in Sedibeng, Melissa van Wyk had her second fight. She was decidedly unlucky to be declared the loser in her fight against C Carriere from Booysens Boxing Club, said chief coach Peter Armstrong.

“She used a good left jab and hard right hand cross to dominate her shorter opponent, and it was a mystery how two of the three judges could have seen her as losing the fight. She, however, gained valuable experience in this fight and will be hard to beat at future tournaments,” added Armstrong.

Contesting his second fight, Conner In’T Veld competed against E Marlick from the Booysens Boxing Club. Conner again showed that he has a bright future in the boxing ring as he easily outpointed his opponent and won the fight on all three judges’ score cards.

At Protearif Boxing Club’s tournament over the weekend twins Conner and Danny In’T Veld remained unbeaten in the boxing ring when they both won their fights against tough opposition.

Conner, having his third fight, was matched against T Brits from Iron Fist Boxing Club. Britz was a good boxer and after three hard-fought rounds, two of the judges had In’T Veld the winner and one judge had Britz the winner.

Danny, also having his third fight, was matched against R Mduli from Tuine Boxing Club in Pretoria. Mdluli put a lot of pressure on In’T Veld but Danny used skilful footwork and accurate punching to control the fight and after three rounds all three judges had him a winner on points.

At the same tournament, Wilson Malema was matched against the more experienced Sebastian Brown from Tuine Boxing Club in Pretoria.

“Brown is an excellent boxer and a hard puncher but the Kempton Park boxer, although losing the fight, showed he also has useful boxing skills and gave the boxer from Pretoria his hardest fight to date. With his victory, Brown was awarded the trophy for the best boxer of the tournament,” said Armstrong.
