Khala-Berry street games to be hosted in Tembisa
Interested teams must register to be part of the games.
Thabang Nzima and Skhumbuzo Vala are to host their second Khala-Berry Street Games Springs Edition from Ecaleni section, Tembisa which will take place on October 6. This follows after they hosted successful netball and soccer street games of the same name on July 7 at Ecaleni. Once again presented by Culture U.S in this Spring edition of Netball and Soccer games, there is more to be expected. The organisers call upon teams from the surrounding neighbourhoods to join in the fun and with prizes to be won. Thabang Nzima organiser said due to the success of the previous event, which caught the attention of a lot of people including teams from out of Tembisa, they had to host another edition. “This time we have included ladies soccer teams which will be playing street soccer games, for the first time,” “There will also be entertainment during the games, people can expect performances from local upcoming artists and DJ’s,” said Nzima. “The male soccer teams will contribute R400 register for the event. The team in the first place will receive R4000 while second prize winners will take home R800. Ladies netball teams will contribute R300 for their participation and the first prize winners will walk away with R3000 while second prize is R800. The ladies soccer team will contribute R300 and the first prize will be R1400 and the team in second place will be awarded R500. “Khala-Berry is not for Tembisans only but every community team, even outside of Tembisa. This time, in addition to including the ladies soccer teams, we decided to have one male in each netball team,” said Vala, co-organiser. “In our first event we had teams from Daveyton and Ivory Park participating and we are expecting teams as far as Soweto and Alexandra at this event. We gave the crowd a taste of local sports entertainment and musical experience,” Vala continues to add that after the first round of the games, they are going to open a slot for the musical artists to perform and there will be business opportunities for those who would like to set up a stall for food, drinks and snacks at the venue. “Interested teams must register to be part of the games.
