Local sporting event wins prestigious award

Morata wins prestigious award for Tembisa Women's Games.

The founder and organiser of the Tembisa Women’s Games, Nthabi Morata, has bagged an Ekurhuleni Women in Sport Award recently for her involvement in the development of sport.

The awards ceremony was held at Destiny Hotel in Kempton Park.

Morata received the Community Grassroots Project of the Year Award for Tembisa Women’s Games, which is held annually in August as part of commemorating Women’s Month.

“It is an honour to be recognised in this manner and win such a prestigious award. When we started the project seven years ago, we weren’t looking for admirations, but wanted to help develop all sporting codes in the community. These are the benefits of our contribution towards the development of sport,” said Morata.

“This award has motivated us to go back to our community and work even harder than before. We are mindful of the fact that we wouldn’t have been where we are without the unwavering support of our sponsors, African Bank, Hollywood Bets, Perfect Choice, Ekurhuleni Social Development, Gauteng Department of Sport and Recreation, and our volunteers who help during our games.

“We can’t forget Jerry S’kosana for his support and guidance whenever we need him. This award is not for us organisers, but belongs to the entire community of Tembisa who has been supporting and participating in these games. We are looking forward to making these games huge and successful,” Morata said.
