Tshwarano to host 5th annual 55km at Barnard Stadium

The run is in preparation of the Comrades

Tshwarano Podium Team (TPT) will host its fifth annual 55km long run at Barnard Stadium on April 27 in preparation of the Comrades Marathon.

Runners will start and finish at the stadium.

The entrance fee is R80, excluding the TPT T-shirt, and R120, including the TPT T-shirt. The run will start at 5.30am.

TPT was formed by former Comrades Marathon winner Ludwick Mamabolo in 2014 at Barnard Stadium. At the time there were about six athletes.

After Ludwick won the Comrades, athletes started joining him to train. This was how Tshwarano was formed.

Tebogo Lekalakala said if one was not quite up to marathon distance yet, this would be an opportunity for exercising and perfecting their skills.

Runners can also train for free with the club on a weekly basis at the stadium before the event. Runners are coached by Thompson Magagane under Mamabolo’s wing,” said Lekalakala.

Mamabolo will also take part in the long run.

TPT expects about 150 runners to take part. Some of the roads that will be affected are CR Swart Drive, Green Avenue, R25 (P91), Pretoria Road towards Oakmoor Station, Allandale Road and Zuurfontein Road.
