Norkem Park’s sensational and versatile Moroka Swallows midfielder Mvuyo Methula (28) is hoping for the team to stay on top of the GladAfrica Championship table in attempt to be promoted to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

After operating for years without a sponsor, the National First Division (NFD) recently scored a new sponsor – GladAfrica.

The NFD is the second-highest league of the South African football clubs after the PSL.

The NFD returned to action on August 9 after the league was placed on pause to help curb the spread of the pandemic.

Moroka Swallows, commonly known as the Birds, travelled to Tsakani Stadium to take on TS Sporting in their first match of the restart on August 12.

The birds are in second position on the log, with 45 points in their bag.

The Soweto-based team drew their game and will be looking to catch up to log leaders Ajax Capetown on August 18.

Methula said that he is excited to be on the field again.

“It’s a blessing and a gift to play once again, but also tough because of what’s happening with the pandemic. The pandemic affected us in many ways socially, economically and personally.

“To be on the field I’m able to improve technically, tactically and evaluating my game thoroughly.

“My relationship with Jesus and support from family, girlfriend and friends and the desire to continuously improve has kept me sane and wanting to carry the trophy.

“Yes, there will be ups and downs guaranteed but I believe with God on my side it will be possible.

“I want to view myself as a valuable footballer, but keeping in mind that I can be replaceable. I aim at being the footballer who makes the most of it and glorify God while doing it,” said Methula.
