The invite-only Pro-Am marks the start of the auspicious tournament where professional golfers and amateurs play together.
One of the objectives of this golfing tournament is to grow women in golf.
Amateur player Bongi Duma, who had previously competed in the Joburg Ladies Open, said she enjoyed herself and the course was in a good condition.
“It’s always a pleasure to play here. It’s a wonderful experience for ladies to play. I always look forward to it,” said Duma.
Other golfers were just as eager to show off their skills during the tournament.
Nigerian golfer Georgia Oboh practised her swing early on Tuesday.
“I feel great being here. It’s my second time playing the Joburg Ladies Open and it’s been a wonderful experience,” said Oboh.
Germany’s Karolin Lampert could not contain her excitement about being part of the tournament.
“It was my first time in Joburg and heard it’s only ladies playing, so that’s exciting,” said Lampert.
“This is my ninth season of golf and it’s my first time playing the Joburg Ladies Open.”
During the afternoon, professional golfers conducted a coaching clinic and councillors who were in attendance participated.
Chairperson of the Section 79 Committee on Governance Clr Sarah Wissler, who has played golf before, said she found the coaching clinic valuable.
“It was amazing and I learned several things,” said Wissler.
“It was great to see all the ladies here. There are not enough women in sport and it’s something we must try and work on.”
The Joburg Ladies Open, a professional women’s golf tournament, was co-sanctioned for the first time by the Ladies European Tour and the Sunshine Ladies Tour.
The tournament officially started on March 24 and ended on March 26.
