Kempton Ruby Club geared for the season

More players are encouraged to join the club for this year's season.

Members of Kempton Park Rugby Club are eager for the season to kick off.

The year started with good news for the club with an announcement that the Valke would return to Barnard Stadium.

“Our facilities will be open soon, meaning a lot more rugby in Kempton Park. We invite the community to support Kempton Park Rugby Club and the Valke,” said the club’s vice-chairperson James Barnardt.

The Express joined the Kempton Park Rugby Club training session on January 26.

“This is another big rebuilding year for the club, but we are more excited than ever to get going and to make this a season to remember.”

The first step in rebuilding the club was the announcement of the newly appointed executive committee.

Monique Nel is the chairperson, Barnardt is the vice-chairperson, Johan Bester is in charge of rugby affairs, and Ziego Pretorius heads up legal and marketing.

The executive will appoint new coaches and soon make an official announcement.

“With the return of the Valke, there is ample opportunity to build Kempton Park Rugby Club to be stronger and bigger than ever.

“The senior season is on the go. We invite all players from U19 upward to join the training sessions every Tuesday and Thursday from 18:30 to 20:00.

The Express joined the Kempton Park Rugby Club training session on January 26.

“The official senior Merlin League will start on March 25.”

More details on the fixtures will be communicated when to hand. The club hopes to start a junior development programme this year.

“For the junior club, we plan to build on the numbers we had last season.”

Kempton Park Rugby Club’s new executive: Ziego Pretorius (legal and marketing), Monique Nel (chairman), Johan Bester (rugby affairs) and James Barnardt (vice-chairperson).

Junior skills development will start at the end of next month, with the official junior season set to start in August.
