Kempton Park Netball Club reflects on achievements
As they prepare for the 2025 season, the club remains committed to its mission of community upliftment, youth development and sporting excellence, one pass at a time.
The Kempton Park Netball Club reflected on its journey.
Known for its team spirit and community focus, the club still caters to age groups from young girls to seasoned players, impacting possible future stars.
Founded in 2012, the club initially focused on giving opportunities to girls aged eight and older from Kempton Park and surrounding areas like Thembisa and Alexandra.
Over the years, it has expanded to include youth teams and a Legends division, which features women over 40, many former players and current coaches.

Today, the club has three main divisions:
• Juniors: U9, U10, U11, U13, and U15;
• Seniors;
• Legends: Women over 40.
Club chairperson Mafathi Setsiba said they are proud to be registered under the Ekurhuleni Netball Association (ENA) and have achieved notable success on the court.
“We’ve won several tournaments across Gauteng and finished in the top five of the ENA League last season. We’ve also had players selected to represent their schools at the provincial level and represent Ekurhuleni and the Netball South Africa Championships,” said Setsiba.
He said the club’s primary goal extends beyond sports.
“The aim is to reduce teenage pregnancy and drug use by encouraging a healthy lifestyle and keeping girls off the streets. We want to empower underprivileged girls by developing their netball skills and giving them a purpose through sport.”

However, one of the club’s challenges is a lack of sponsorship.
“Without funding, we struggle to buy proper equipment, netball kits and pay professional coaches. Sponsorship would make a huge difference in helping us grow and improve the experience for our players,” Setsiba said.
Despite this, development remains the heart of the club, with a focus on nurturing junior players and watching them grow into stars, whether in professional sports or as leaders at their schools.

“We have over 80 players registered with the Kempton Park Netball Club. That number alone motivates us to continue the work we do. We want to see more girls playing netball rather than on the streets,” said Setsiba.
As they prepare for the 2025 season, the club remains committed to its mission of community upliftment, youth development and sporting excellence, one pass at a time.
