Laerskool Kruinsig hosts thrilling U13 netball clash

Laerskool Constantiapark collected points at Laerskool Kruinsog to showcase their talent in their young netball players.

Laerskool Kruinsig’s netball courts were filled with excitement on March 19 as parents, guardians, educators and learners gathered to support the players and witness the talent on display.

The U13 teams from Laerskool Kruinsig and Laerskool Constantiapark faced off in a friendly match, with the visitors from Pretoria emerging 15-8 victors.

Constantiapark started strongly and maintained control from the early stages, putting the hosts under pressure.

Kruinsig found it challenging to convert their opportunities in the opening phases, but they settled into the game and added points to the scoreboard.

Kruinsig player Scarlett du Preez said the team showed promise but acknowledged that there is room for improvement.

“I think our performance was fine, but we could have done better in some areas. I also feel I could have improved,” she said.

“With more practice, we could have achieved a better outcome. We need to move more and not stand still when calling for the ball. I am a bit sad that we lost, but we will do better next time.”

Kruinsig worked hard to close the gap, but Constantiapark’s consistent scoring and structured play made it difficult for the hosts to gain momentum. The visitors quickly found their rhythm, while Kruinsig continued to search for theirs.

In the final minutes, Constantiapark extended its lead, leaving Kruinsig with little time to respond. Despite the pressure, both teams continued to compete until the final whistle.

Constantiapark player Anushka de Swardt, who played her final netball match, expressed pride in both her team and personal performance.

“The game went really well for the team, and I think we did our best. My performance has improved a lot – I couldn’t even catch a ball the last time we played, so I believe I contributed,” she said.

“I don’t think there is anything we would have changed. We did really well and gave our best.”

Reflecting on her final game, De Swardt said it was an emotional moment.

“I am sad that this was my last netball match. I have played for eight years and will really miss it, but I will continue to support my team from the sidelines and watch every game.”

Constantiapark walked away deserved winners, while Kruinsig showed good sportsmanship, applauding their opponents and taking the result as motivation to improve.
