Kempton Park athletes ready to tackle first Comrades Marathon
Kempton Road Runners have a group of 12 runners who will be participating at the Comrades Marathon for the first time.
Kempton Road Runners have confirmed that 12 novice runners from the club will take on the Comrades Marathon for the first time, joining a wider group of athletes preparing for one of the world’s most demanding ultra-distance races.
The Comrades Marathon will take place on June 14, with athletes set to line up for the 99th edition.
The iconic race will start at Durban City Hall and finish at the Hollywoodbets Scottsville Racecourse in Pietermaritzburg, covering a challenging 85.7km route.

The 12 debutants form part of a larger contingent of Kempton Road Runners athletes preparing for the annual endurance test, which attracts participants from across the country and beyond.
Club members have been taking part in a series of preparation events and send-off activities in the lead-up to race day, as the runners finalise their training and mental preparation for the long-distance challenge.
For the novice athletes, this year’s Comrades Marathon will mark their first experience of the historic ultra-marathon, widely regarded as one of the toughest road races in the world.
