A golf day hosted in honour of a legendary dynamite
Organiser Mohera Boshomane and event coordinator Sandra Twala said they were proud to have been part of an iconic moment.
The Benjamin Monyanyedi Golf Day was held at Kempton Park Golf Club on September 17.
Golfers clad in black and white arrived at 09:00 to participate in the tournament before enjoying a gala dinner and prize-giving ceremony.
Organiser Mohera Boshomane and event coordinator Sandra Twala said they were proud to have been part of an iconic moment honouring an individual for his selfless contribution while he is still alive.
Programme director Gontse Monyanyedi said her father had proved beyond reasonable doubt that golf should never be a sport reserved only for the rich.

She said her father’s mission was not formally planned, but when intervention became necessary, he stepped forward.
She added that golfing authorities now recognise the need for affordable golf and acknowledge that access to courses is necessary for young people in townships, who should be given an opportunity to fully participate in the sport rather than predominantly being involved as caddies.
“Golf is a huge industry, with various opportunities that could be explored and exploited by all,” she said.
Thabo Monyanyedi said that while he was occupied with other societal challenges, his brother Benjamin was committed to a mission to change the golfing landscape.
He added that many people are only now recognising that golf can change lives through the numerous opportunities available within the sport.
In closing, Benjamin Monyanyedi extended his sincere thanks to the sponsors who supported the event, particularly main sponsor Jonet.

He also thanked the golfers and friends in attendance.
Addressing Jones Tolo, owner and director of Jonet, Monyanyedi said: “Moshabi, the job has not been completed; it has only started.
“Young, agile brigades are needed to take over the baton so that the golfing landscape can truly be responsive to the needs of youngsters in the township, boys and girls.”
Overall, the sponsors, organisers and golfers agreed that the honour was well deserved.
