Showcase for local talent to be held
Musicians may still register to perform at the event and registration will close the Wednesday before the event
LOCAL artists will share the stage with big names in the music industry during the East rand Got Talent event on December 12 at Birch Acres Football Club.
entries for the event are still open and will close December 10. The event is hosted by Sisama Music in partnership with Blue Works.
While Sisama, owned by Sindisiwe Mashike, aims to promote and expose artists in the music industry, Blue Works is a group of boys who are DJs and producers, offering sound hire and event organisation.
The two companies met at a recording studio and seem to be a match made in heaven.
There is, however, an age gap of over almost 40 years between Mashike and the boys but their passion for music as well as respect ensure that the relationship is successful.
“It’s lovely working with them. I’m looking forward to empowering them as a mother and handing over the baton to them to run with the vision,” said Mashike.
While Sisama started with its focus on gospel music and artists, the company has now spread its wings and promotes artists of all genres of music.
“I love any kind of music as long as it has a good message and does not promote anything bad. I also love watching the kids dance.”
Mashike said she realised the music industry was difficult to break into and talented youth were being left frustrated as they sometimes did not have support from their parents.
The event, which was first launched in 2012, is the third annual talent festival and she hoped to eventually have two events a year.
“We want to keep artists focused, uplift them and pay them with this event as it grows,” she said.
Mashike said the big artists in the industry who had been invited to perform, such as DJ Shimza and Riky Rick, were the crowd pullers so the unknown local artists could get an opportunity to perform for a larger audience.
“We want to get the artists recognised, build their confidence and get them booked for future events.”
Although the event is not a competition, the artist who stands out on the day will be given an opportunity to record their single which will be recorded and promoted by Sisama Music.
Residents can expect performances in hip hop, afrosoul, gospel, mbaqanga, dancing as well as a live band.
Kemptonians are invited to attend and show support to local talent.
