Protest dance becomes form of art in new theatre production

An Ekurhuleni organisation collaborated with Hors Serie Company from France to form a TOYI-TOYI Theatre Production

PROTEST dance has become an art form and found a new home in the theatre in a new Ekurhuleni production at the Springs Theatre.

Ekurhuleni organisation, Via Katlehong Company, collaborated with Hors Serie Company from France to form a TOYI-TOYI Theatre Production, which seeks to recite the personal experiences of the artists during the apartheid era.

As part of the city’s commitment to promoting the arts within the metro, the production has received support from Ekurhuleni.

“We are certain that this dance theatre experience will undoubtedly take theatre goers on a nostalgic journey by showcasing a blend of theatrical ingenious together with real life narratives,” said Ekurhuleni Metro, spokesman, Themba Gadebe.

Furthermore the collaboration between the two companies will provide artists with workshops to equip them with advanced theatre skills.

The workshop for the artists will be on January 30 at the Springs Theatre from noon until 2pm.

The performance will be on the same day at the same venue from 6.30pm until 8pm.
