First Ekurhuleni Film Festival to be held on Saturday
Film Festival and daily workshops are set to unblock the bottlenecks of the film industry

THE Ekurhulei Metro will intervene in advancing the course of amateur film makers within the Ekurhuleni region through workshops and practical exercises.
Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe said the task of creatively telling South African stories through films could be very challenging if one did not have the resources and support from government.
“The workshops, to be facilitated at various community art centres, will serve as a precursor to the first instalment of the Ekurhuleni Film Festival to be held at the O R Tambo Cultural Precinct in Wattville this coming Saturday, June 13,” he said.
He added that as of Wednesday, June 10, until Friday, June 12, art centres such as the Rhoo Hlatshwayo Art Centre in Daveyton, Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre in Tembisa and the Katlehong Art Centre would be hubs of information for film makers.
“EMM officials in the performing arts section together with stakeholders such as the National Film and Video Foundation and the Services SETA will facilitate the workshops with an intention to unpack and address issues of funding, production and scriptwriting, from development to distribution, acting and directing,” Gadebe added.
To culminate the week-long activities, film makers will be given a platform on Saturday to showcase what they have learned during the workshops by showing their work through short films.
Film makers who are interested in attending the workshops can contact Nomathemba Maseko-Jele on 011 999 0671/ 079 872 8834 or email: nomathemba.maseko-jele@ekurhuleni.gov.za.
The film festival workshops will take place daily from Wednesday from 9am to 3pm daily except Saturday, and details are as follows: Wednesday, at the Katlehong Art Centre (203 Sontonga Road, Phooko Section), Thursday, at the Moses Molelekwa Art Centre (28 Corner Andrew Mapheto and Star Street Tembisa), Friday, at the Rhoo Hlatshwayo Art Centre (Corner Hlakwane and Embusweni StreetDaveyton) and Saturday, from 9am to 6pm at the O R Tambo Cultural Precinct, Wattville.
