“Over the years I’ve been working on other artists projects as a producer and feature, last year I finally felt I was strong enough to do my own project,” he said.
“I changed so many songs before finalising the project for release, because I wanted songs that brought out the best in me and that have relevant topics to modern society. I also touch on subjects about the ills of destructive behavior in relationships, such as lack of trust, loyalty and the temptations life brings to our doorstep every day,” he further explained.
Dapula said he has also let people in on his flaws and triumphs, insecurities, and a lot of things that have happened in his life.
The 25 year old rapper left home at 19 and will speak about the reasons why on his upcoming album, Reason to Believe.
“I had to find my way around Joburg alone as a teenager and it wasn’t easy. I believe words create and actions shape our tomorrow, so what I say in my songs has happened or does come to life. I speak about what I see, hear, feel and know.”
He is signed by Big Money Records for a two year management deal, and also recently signed two administration deals. The one is with And Still Rising Entertainment which will administrate and promote the mixtape in and around Gauteng, while Nine2 entertainment will administrate his music from the Eastern Cape.
Dapula said he had worked with different artists, from Nigerian vocalists and Gauteng based artists such as Lyrical Tip, Sumonels, Sik Vik, Young Taker, Aricess and Styno Wisper.
Producers he’s worked with include Jazzy Beats, Killa Kat, O’red, Lyrical Tip, that’s OD (Siyabonga Nkhohla) and Soso (Sikhosonke Sixolo).
“Burning Desire is a mixtape I would recommend to everyone, especially people who have a taste for matured lyrics and sound. Five singles have been released on the net and can easily be downloaded, but the rest will be found only on the mixtape hard copy, we’ve currently sold 50 copies, bought in Queenstown, Joburg, Pretoria and Cape Town,” pointed out Dapula.
His two music videos for the singles ‘Friend Zone’ and ‘Tied in a Tangle’ can be found on Youtube.
