Art exhibition open at Springs gallery

The exhibition is open for public viewing until September 30

AN array of art pieces, ranging from the twentieth century to modern times, adorn the City of Ekurhuleni’s Springs Art Gallery at this year’s prestigious Acquisition Exhibition.

The exhibition showcases items that were acquired by the City by means of donations, commissions, achievements and as gifts over the years.

Art lovers will be taken by the lively and attractive exhibition of paintings, drawings and sculptures of varying mediums.

“As the City of Ekurhuleni we invite all citizens who are passionate about art and those who want to learn more about it to interact and consult with us at our exhibition in order to establish solid partnerships in growing the love of art in our communities,” said Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

The aim of the exhibition is to enrich and expand the views of the community through art, and as such, audiences from schools, universities, adult groups, community centres and individual artists will get to view the gallery’s permanent collection through a guided tour.

Artists whose work is currently on display include Mimi van der Merwe, Michael Zikhali, Willem Hermanus Coetzer, Colin Mashiya, Wilson (Madala) Edom, Lekau Matsena, Sabelo Mabuza, Marietha Smith, Pebofatso Mokoena, Erica Stach, Sipho Zikalala, Xolani Guxton Ngwenya, Taryn Mariana Drazek and Keith Sondiyazi.

The exhibition is open for public viewing until September 30. The Springs Art Gallery is open weekdays from 9am to 4.30pm and Saturdays from 8am to noon, and access if free of charge.
