Music trio PAQ blends house and hip hop to give fresh new sound

The band currently has two singles out and will launch their EP by the end of the year

MUSIC group PAQ are a trio of young artists who have been described as “new-age pop musical geniuses”.

By skillfully blending two completely different genres – house and hip hop – they are offering music lovers a fresh new sound through their talent.

“The way we blend hip hop and house music is new. We execute both genres well and we are also able to make them cross authentically without remixing,” explained 25-year-old former Kempton resident, Akhona More.

“So our audience can learn to appreciate one without neglecting the other and show that music has no boundaries.”

Rapper More, vocalist and songwriter Qhama Dayile, from Cape Town, and producer and composer Prince Manonga, from Swaziland, form PAQ.

The name for their group was formulated using the first letters of their names, the “P” is from Prince, the “A” from Akhona and the “Q” is from Qhama.

The group formed after collaborating on a house song, “Rose” in October, last year, forming a friendship within the music industry that would later lead to PAQ.

More was born in Tembisa and grew up in Rhodesfield, before relocating to Johannesburg for work purposes, but he still has family in Kempton Park. He went to Norkem Park Primary.

He began rapping in high school and decided to pursue his dreams of being a rapper just over a year ago.

Dayile has been singing since high school and started performing as a vocalist six years ago.

Manonga has also been producing for six years now.

The trio will be launching their first EP as a group at the end of October.

“The EP will have seven tracks on it, which will be a mixture of soulful house, dance music and new age hip hop mixed with old school Kwaito, along with influence from most urban genres,” More said.

At the moment the young band has two singles out “Getting Mine”” and “Rose” which are currently getting airplay on national radio stations and are being received well by the public.

“Getting Mine” has a new-age hip hop sound and is about the trio chasing their dreams.

“The second track called “Rose”, a house song, was written by Qhama as a dedication to women. The song is about being a woman and celebrating womanhood. It’s basically saying all women are beautiful roses, hence the name,” More explained.

The singles, which were released about six months ago, are both available on iTunes.

So far, the group has been busy with live performances at upmarket clubs, conferences, events and launches around Gauteng, and are ready to take it global going forward.

The EP will be accessible in both hard copy and digital formats on iTunes.

More information will be made available on social media platforms, so make sure you follow the group on Twitter at “PAQ_SA”, like their Facebook page “PAQ”, and check out their music on SoundCloud and Audiomack.
