Burning carnival comes to Mall of Africa
This one of a kind festival fuses music, entertainment, costumes and self-expression, with three special themed tents

For the first time in South Africa, The Burning Carnival World Tour will kick off on October 29 at the Mall of Africa.
This one of a kind festival fuses music, entertainment, costumes and self-expression, with three special themed tents, a large central arena, an art tent, a VIP dinner table with three-course meals prepared by an international chef, fun and entertainment park, and a therapeutic sunset letter burning ceremony.
Guests will have the chance to dress up according to their own fantasies, themes, imaginations and creativity, making this event the ultimate celebration of expression.
Burning Carnival organiser, Stephan Dau, says, “We create a feeling of optimism, love, fun and togetherness. We want people to discover themselves and celebrate love and life with their best friends to express themselves and impress others with their costumes and behaviour. It’s a great big fantasy world for adults.”
Guests with musical or artistic talents are encouraged to get involved by showcasing their talents at the event.
The Arena and Acts
The central stage area is where the magic will take place with some headlining acts.
If you would like to perform at the Burning Carnival, you can apply for the chance to be the best performer and win R5 000. To apply, send an email with images to julia@burningcarnival.com with the following details: name, contact number, type of performance and time of performance.
The Art Tent
The Art Tent will showcase modern art in all of its many forms. Artists are invited to showcase works of art. For further information on how to showcase work at the event, contact julia@burningcarnival.com.
The Burning
At sunset, there will be a healing, uplifting burning ceremony. Guests are invited to bring along a letter that represents any aspect of life that they would like to release. As a group, letters and past obstacles will be symbolically burnt, allowing a sense of freedom as the group moves onward together.
This main event is aimed to inspire optimism, togetherness, love and letting go. Guests will be able to rediscover themselves and find freedom, looking towards the future together as a group.
Fun Park & Food Market
There will be a number of carnival rides and booths. There will also be a small market, offering supper tables, delicious food and other items.
The carnival will be open from 11am to 11pm, with an after show party from 11pm to 2am.
