Young musician is hitting the right notes
'My father is happy with me doing music as long as my boiler-making studies are not affected negatively'
A YOUNG hip hop artist with an ultimatum to continue making music only when he excels in his boiler-making studies could inspire other young people.
Tjay Teits (20), real name Tatenda Mayeza, from Cresslawn finds himself having to balance his love for music and his parents’ dream to see their child with an education.
The youngster has plans to make it big as an artist but enjoys how his parents are willing to support him in his music journey just as long as he does not put his money in one basket.
“I always loved making music because my father himself is a recording artist who makes R’nB music. He is a supportive man who listens to my music and supports my vision but because I am his child, he cares about my future so he wants me to pass academically.
“Now that I am at tertiary level, I am also allowed to record music and I plan to release a mix tape with 16 songs in December. I also have a demo that people can listen to on my Facebook page,” said Tjay.
Tjay Teits explained he does not find difficulty balancing the two and knows that education is important and a top priority. He said the responsibility to balance the two helps motivate him to work harder to make his parents proud.
“I have a cousin who lives in London and I plan to go there in the future when I have graduated, so that I may work on my music. The industry is more accessible that side and there will be a lot of resources at my disposal,” said the youngster.
Tjay Teits wishes to work with local producers and artists, and also invites locals to contact him or follow him on his Facebook page, Tjay Teits, or communicate with him on 062 9335 177 for collaborations.
Tjay Teits is also available on social media platforms.
