Tembisa musical group nominated for SAMA awards
They were initially exposed in the '90s by the inimitable Bra Hugh Masekela in the musical called Songs of Migration
COMPLETE, the musical group, received nominations at the South African Music Awards evening (Sama).
Brand and communications officer Kwazi Sithole told The Tembisan that the group consists of four lads who reside in Tembisa but are recording at Makotopong Sound Studios in Pretoria. “Pretoria-based label Makotopong Sound Studios’ (MSS) catalogue, would like to congratulate Complete for their Sama 24 nomination for Best Traditional Music Album.
The quartet comprises founders and brothers, Happy and Bonginkosi Motha, and old time friends, Bubele Mgele and Mluleki Chuma,” said Sithole. He added that the music group is one of South Africa’s worst kept secrets. He said the members have done their rounds and have won many awards in their hometown of Ekurhuleni, but still they remain largely unknown in wider South Africa.
“They were initially exposed in the ’90s by the inimitable Bra Hugh Masekela in the musical called Songs of Migration. This production had an extended run at the Market Theatre and subsequently toured the USA and the Netherlands. It is as a result of this tour that Complete is perhaps better known in Holland Sweden, Denmark and Germany than back home,” said Sithole. He believes that the debut album titled, Isiqalo (The Beginning), is a mix of songs which showcases the group’s harmonic prowess and versatility.
“The album is produced by the legendary Themba Mkize and offers exciting fresh listening for varied tastes, from the deeply traditional to the urban globetrotter, by an ensemble whose journey, we are certain, will be an epic one,” explained Sithole.
Complete have finished recording their second album titled, Nawe, under the Makotopong Sound Studios (MSS) label. This album is due for release later in 2018.
